Home Team Takes Third at Halloween Team Race |
|
|
Recap below from EYC team captain Mike Kanare:
"We were greeted by one last taste of summer on Saturday with sunny temps in the 70s and a streaky, puffy 5-10 knot SW breeze. We started off the regatta well going 3-0 in our opening races, but ultimately finished the day with a 4-6 record. With the wind varying so much in terms of velocity and angle, it was really important to keep your head out of the boat to make sure you were tracking the breeze well to keep your speed up and keeping maneuvers smooth in the light stuff.
At the end of the day we debriefed as a team and came up with 2 key takeaways: starts and communication. Despite many on the team with a plethora of team racing experience, many of us hadn't sailed together before this event. We needed to make sure we were all on the same page when starting, executing mark traps, and making plays, it is TEAM racing after all! |

Sunday presented itself with typical New England fall weather with temps in the 50s, a more consistent 8-11 N-NW breeze, and some rain. The team was excited to get on the water after our discussions and sailed a much better day on Sunday where we won the rest of our races in RR2 to make it into gold fleet. Racing in the final round of 4 was exciting with lots of plays being made by all teams, lead changes, and mark traps. Our team was really starting to gel at this point, going 2-1 in gold fleet and finishing 3rd overall. I'm proud of the improvements that we made over the course of the weekend and had a blast meeting some new teammates and sailing with everyone. Thanks again to Katie Rodger, Clinton Hayes, and the rest of the organizers for putting together such a great event!"
