Recap from EYC skipper and team captain Spencer Powers: The Commodore's Cup regatta took place on Friday, June 30, featuring Eastern competing against Corinthian and Boston yacht clubs.
The regatta began with a double round robin, during which Eastern sailed well and won every race. The regatta format then pitted Eastern against Corinthian in a winner-take-all showdown. The races were closely contested, with Corinthian winning the first race and Eastern winning the second. The tension mounted in the third race which was closely fought, but Corinthian ultimately won. While the Eastern team was dismayed in achieving the best overall record but then falling in the finals, it was a spirited and memorable regatta, showcasing the skill and sportsmanship of all participating teams. The finale of the regatta was on land when Corinthian hoisted its burgee atop Boston Yacht Club's flag pole until colors that evening.
In addition to Spencer, the rest of the EYC team was made up of Clinton Hayes (skipper), Vice Commodore Alan McKinnon, Sam Foster, Rachel Foster, Alex Cook (skipper), Commodore Peter Frisch, Debbie Noble, Sam Rodiger, Rear Commodore Larry Ehrhardt, Margaux Danforth, and Katie Rodger.

The Annual Regatta took place as usual on July 4 in a generally light breeze. Twenty three boats competed in a challenging northeasterly breeze, with both races and race committee contending with some large shifts. In the end, the RC was able to run all fleets successfully around the buoys, with everyone in to shore just before the heavy rain arrived. Congratulations to the EYC winners in their respective divisions: A Division - Cindy & Jud Smith’s Africa B Division - Rob Gorman’s Sea Bliss
C Division - JB & Kelley Braun’s Eos D Division - Richard Sides’s Atalanta

Recap from Anne Marije Veenland-Lee:
On Monday, July 3, the EYC organized another FUN Race & Racquets event with the weather ending up treating us nicely. There was some light rain during the morning tennis matches which actually had a nice cooling effect. Dan McCormick made sure all 25 participants had a good time on the courts and, for the sailors among us, a reminder of how much fun tennis is and that we should do it more often. Rear Commodore Larry Ehrhardt got 1st place on the tennis podium, followed by Commodore Peter Frisch in 2nd and Lillie Lombardi in 3rd.
The tennis part was followed by an excellent lunch at 12pm (thank you EYC staff!) and a brief introduction provided by sailing directors Franny Charles and Jeremy Fraser on what to expect for the afternoon sailing program. We made 6 teams of 4 people per Sonar with Franny ensuring that everyone rotated on the helm and other positions for every leg! It was a great idea, giving everyone the opportunity for hands-on participation in the races. Although the wind was light, the race committee succeeded in getting 2 races in.
The day ended with a drink and a laugh, and even the sun came out. Overall winners of 2023 Race & Racquet Day are: 1st place Commodore Peter Frisch 2nd place Past Commodore Martha Altreuter 3rd place with a tiebreaker - Molly Bushman and Jack Fisher
