As of Wednesday evening, EYC members Jud Smith and Remi Hutchins are in 10th place in the 84-boat fleet, followed closely by Tomas Hornos in 11th, only two points behind. The Star Class, along with the Eastern Yacht Club, wishes to thank the flag officers and members of the Boston Yacht Club and the Corinthian Yacht Club for their support. Their volunteers and staff have been instrumental in making the regatta a success!

Team EYC is sitting in third place in the qualifying round of the Resolute Cup at NYYC. Day one brought a puffy and shifty westerly which, along with limited experience in the RS21, led to a long and challenging day on the water. Day 2 is another qualifying day, and the results of qualifying will determine gold and silver fleets for the final two days of racing.
EYC tactician and Resolute Cup veteran Alden Reid spoke about experience in the event and goals for the week in an article from NYYC. Follow along during the rest of the regatta on Facebook and Instagram.

EYC member Ian Barrows and his crew Hans Henken competed in the 49er World Championship on St. Margaret’s Bay in Nova Scotia. The team sailed consistently in an incredibly competitive fleet, finishing outside the top ten only 6 times in 15 races, and never out of the top 20. They just missed qualifying for the medal race but finished the event in a strong 11th out of 65. | |

“Lots of learning still to do to find our way to the World Championship podium in the future, but we are up to the challenge and look forward to pushing hard for it next summer.” -team Facebook post. |

Season Wrap-up on Summer Laser Series |
|
|
August 30th marked the last day of summer Tuesday night Laser racing, which began May 31st. Read on for Patrick Andreasen’s recap of the series. Thanks to all the sailors who showed up each week, and to our dedicated race committee for supporting one of EYC’s most thriving one design classes!
From Patrick: 32 sailors competed in 64 races in the Tuesday Summer Series. We had winds 0-27+ and the time of our lives! Beautiful sunsets, creepy fog, and a bunch of laughs. We had 4-8 races each evening and definitely upped our sailing skills. Most nights had us debriefing in the Barker after sailing. One of our best nights was a review of the drone footage on tactics, boat handling and rules. We could not have done it without all the race committee volunteers. Ian McLaughlin, Chris Lubeck, along with Charlotte Martinez (Assistant Sailing Director), and others did an amazing job!
We had over 15 EYC members, young to old, and a few family members competing against each other. Ulf Westhoven was the master of the magic of compiling all the scores. When it was all over, the top 6 were: 1st Patrick Andreasen, 2nd Matt Caplin (CYC), 3rd Ulf Westhoven, 4th John Tagliamonte (WBC), 5th Stein Skaane, 6th Ledyard McFadden. Other EYC sailors were: Anne Marije Veenland, Bill Murray, Nicholas and Marine Regnault (mother & son), Eric O’Conner, Sam Altreuter, Jim Da Silva, Ramsay Key, Ed Austin, Morgan Cheney, and Stan Schreyer.
The Fall Series begins on Sunday, September 18th, 1300 first start. |

Boston Yacht Club hosted the annual Sail Salem Pursuit Race on Labor Day, September 5th. Four EYC boats sailed in the fleet of 28; Chris Lubeck’s Man Of War, Anne Marije Veenland-Lee’s Loki, Bryan Lee’s Hope, and Cindy Smith’s Africa.
Chris Lubeck’s race recap: Sail Salem is a great race for “end of summer” racing, and it is for a great cause to support the Sail Salem community programs. The weather forecast was for rain and a light northeast breeze, which might have kept some of the racers on shore. But the weather was in the racers’ favor with a fresh 8-12 knots from the northeast at the start of the race, which held the entire race, and only light rain at the finish. As the wind was freshening up, Team Man Of War had our traditional crew meeting on the mooring where we review safety procedures, weather, course and positions for the race. Before each race we spend 30 minutes as a refresher, present updated procedures, and new safety equipment.
The course direction was clockwise around Children's Island, approx. 5.2 miles, which sailors had to honor certain government buoys along the way. Anne Marije Veenland-Lee in her Rhodes 19, Loki, started out fast and led for the majority of the pursuit race. It was not until the last 100 yards from the finish that the team on Man Of War caught Loki to win the non spinnaker division and take line honors for the Sail Salem Pursuit Race.
