The 90-minute "Local Coastal Navigation" session hosted by Tobias Reiley, Seamus Hourihan, and Rear Commodore Peter Frisch was billed as an event designed for young and old, novice and experienced yachtsmen, and those not as familiar with coastal navigation, and it delivered.
Three questions were addressed in the session: Where am I? How do I get home when the fog rolls in? and How can I get help in an emergency? The group of approximately 50 attendees walked through fundamentals that mixed mapping on your cell phone and paper charts, increasing access to boating, keeping safe on the water, and opening eyes to the range and depth of good seamanship. Attendees walked-away with essential information, plus thoughts and questions on our own boating plans this summer, including: - Involving the crew in today’s outing
- Is my safety equipment up to spec?
- I wonder if my kids know enough about safe boating?
- I'm glad to finally have a waterproof Salem Sound to Cap Ann navigation chart
- I'd like to participate in the US Sailing Safety at Sea seminar at the Club next June
Waterproof charts covering Marblehead through Cape Ann are available at the Front Desk at a very attractive price. Sign up here for the seminar. |
