Team EYC Semi-Finalists at the Thayer Trophy |
Corinthian Yacht Club hosted the second annual Thayer Trophy women’s team race last weekend. The event saw six competitive teams through two days of a full range of conditions. Here is a recap from EYC Team Captain and Skipper Megan Yeigh: Fifteen Eastern women competed in the Thayer Trophy last weekend, team racing against five other all-women teams. Saturday was light, shifty, and lumpy racing just inside Children's Island, allowing the teams to finish just one round robin. Sunday morning conditions were similar, but the sea breeze finally filled in to finish out the second round robin and final four knockout rounds. The team made it into the final four and finished fourth after two knockout sail offs. The Corinthian Yacht Club hosted a great event with an excellent host of volunteers, PRO, and a band Saturday night to top off the weekend!

Eastern members Alden Reid, Clinton Hayes, and Hannah Lynn sailed the Lambert Ocean Race on Virgo, finishing 3rd across the line around 7:00am on Saturday the 25th. They won both overall and C division by almost an hour on corrected time and were awarded the Chesterton Bowl. Other EYC-crewed boats in the race included John Thompson’s Frers 36 Hall Pass (1st in B division winning the Lambert Trophy, and the best corrected time winning the Periwinkle Trophy), and Edward Kaye’s J/111 Pravda 2 (2nd in A division, 4th overall).

What a difference a year makes! Last year’s weather stymied all efforts to get out on the water for Women’s Thursday Night Team Racing, but last Thursday made up for it with pretty perfect conditions. Read the evening’s recap from Martha Altreuter here. |
