Tech Dinghy Frostbiting Wrap-Up
Series 3 of Tech Dinghy Frostbiting finishes this Sunday, April 11th. The fleet has had a great winter of racing, fleet building, and camaraderie. You can see some great photos of the group from Past Commodore Phil Smith, here. Make sure to check out the great new warming hut they built and launched for Frostbiting too!
The Overall Series standings show several Eastern Sailors on the podium, barring any major upsets to the standings on Sunday: Tomas Hornos (1st), Larry Ehrhardt (2nd), and Jud Smith (3rd).
Congratulations to the group on a great season of sailing through sun, rain, snow, and freezing temperatures!
Spring Laser Sailing
Sharing the course with the Tech Dinghies on Sunday the 11th, the Spring Laser sailors are looking forward to getting back out on the water for their first race of the season. They will be racing Sundays April 11th to May 23rd, except on Mothers' Day weekend, when they race on May 8th.
Here are a few quick details on launching and their schedule if you want to try and see a race:
- Launching: from Riverhead in Marblehead (across from Devereaux Beach on the causeway)
- Post-race prizes: at Riverhead
- 11:15am: good time to arrive as you’ll need more time with the longer distance to sail out to the race area, depending on tide/wind
- 12 noon: skippers meeting & introductions at Riverhead – this is new!
- 1pm: First Race
- 3pm: Last Race
- 4pm: post-race awards at Riverhead

Team Racing Seminars: 101 Beginners and 201 Intermediates to Advanced
We are excited to "bring in" Greg Wilkinson for two Zoom Seminars on Team Racing. Each session will run for 90 minutes and is only available to Eastern members to attend.
Team Racing 101: Beginners' Introduction to Team Racing
Wednesday, April 28th, 6:30pm-8:00pm
This is the course for anyone that wants to get involved with Team Racing at the Eastern. Learn the basics: rules, course, starts, mark roundings, and terminology specific to this racing format. Ideal for sailors that know how to sail but want to have an introductory understanding of Team Racing before getting out on the water. Join in and get tips and tricks for how to get started and how to get involved!
Team Racing 201: Intermediates moving towards Advanced
Wednesday, May 5th, 6:30pm-8:00pm
If you've sailed with EYC at local or casual Team Race events but you want to start working to attend bigger name regattas and developing as a more advanced Team Racer, this is the seminar for you. Greg will gear the topics to sailors that already know the language of team racing and will cover how to approach a variety of situations around the course. This will be an informative and engaging evening!
These events are free to attend and Zoom information for them will be available on the Club Website Calendar.
Youth Team Racing Night
Eastern's Youth Team Race Night is an opportunity to participate in a fun evening of team racing where the boats are skippered by youth sailors and their crew consists of other youth sailors, friends, parents and sailing instructors. Thursday, June 10th will be our first iteration of this event and we look forward to having more if there's interest.
Sailing Director Tara will run a quick chalk talk at 4:30pm and then we'll head out to the water for a quick warm-up drill followed by 2v2 or 3v3 races. A debrief will follow racing at the EYC Sailing Center. Parents or family members that did not race are encouraged to join us at the Sailing Center at 8:30PM for dinner (from the Bistro Menu) and watch some sailing footage of the action from the water.
Skippers must be 15 years or older and have a strong background in fleet racing. One skipper or crew member must be 18 years or older. Skippers may be paired with experienced team racers to create a competitive racing experience. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend the Team Racing Zoom Seminars by Greg Wilkinson in order to be better prepared: Team Racing 101 on April 28th at 6:30PM and Team Racing 201 on May 5th at 6:30pm.
Indicate your interest in attending to Youth Team Racing Night's Event Coordinator, Ramsay Hoguet: HERE.
Safety at Sea Practical - Registration Still Open!

If you'd like the full Offshore Sailing Safety at Sea Certification through US Sailing, be sure to complete their Online Course in advance.
Dave Perry is well known for his enthusiastic and engaging teaching style for sailors of all ages and levels, as well as highly respected for his deep knowledge of the sport of Sailing. He is one of the sport’s leading coaches and rules experts, serving on the US Sailing Appeals Committee and being the Rules Advisor for several recent America’s Cup teams and the US Sailing Team at the 2008, 2012 and 2021 Olympic Games.
Dave has learned how to bring his same engaging and effective teaching style to the Zoom platform, and is excited to work with the sailors and race officials in the Marblehead area know the rules better so they are more confident in close-quarter action at the starts and around the marks, and so they can play and run the game at a higher level. Dave encourages sailors who normally crew to join us because knowing the rules better will dramatically increase their racing enjoyment.
Send your Rules Questions/Issues to Dave Ahead of Time: Dave encourages registered participants to send in their rules questions/issues ahead of time. Please send them to Bill Murray by Sunday, May 9.
Links and Preparing to Attend: On or around Tuesday, May 4, registered participants will receive a pre-read with some study materials and the Zoom link. Participants will receive the recording link soon after the event.
For Additional Information: Questions about the event, need more information, or questions for Dave Perry? Send them to Bill Murray.
