49er Olympic Campaign for the 2024 Summer Olympics
Eastern member Ian Barrows and his teammate Hans Henken are campaigning for the 2024 Olympics in the 49er. Meet the team and follow along with their progress at their site: https://barrowshenkenracing.com/
You can also stay up to date on where they are and where they're going next through these social media accounts: Facebook @barrowshenkenracing, Instagram @hanshenken, and by following the US Skiff Squad's #49erUSSkiffSquad and @us49ersquad.
Recently, Ian and Hans competed in the US Open Sailing regatta in Miami. Over the course of the regatta, the breeze was light which made for close and competitive races. See more debriefs on the racing, Here. The team worked their way to 2nd, placing just behind Nevin Snow and Dane Wilson. See the Final Standings, Here.
The team is currently working to head to Europe for spring training. If you would like to join their team and help a fellow member's Olympic path, reach them at [email protected].
Marblehead's Tech Dinghy Fleet Resumes Frostbite Sailing
Racing resumed on January 24th for Series 2 of the Marblehead Tech Dinghy Fleet's Frostbiting. Several Eastern members had podium finishes in Series 1 and six of the original seventeen boats were skippered by Eastern sailors.
Tomas Hornos - 1st
Jud Smith - 2nd
Larry Ehrhardt - 3rd
Since their 2020 racing, several more boats have joined the fleet. Series 2 promises to keep the fun and competition going! See Results Here.
Speaker Series - Rich Wilson on February 3rd
"So What Do You Do After Completing Two Vendee Globes"
Rich Wilson will provide insight into the Collegiate Offshore Sailing Circuit (COSC), a non-profit, that he established to provide a platform to educate young sailors on the fun of sailing offshore and at night. Eastern will be collaborating with COSC this summer by hosting two Figaro 2s for two 5-week programs. Each program will end with a "final" race - the Lambert Ocean Overnight Race and the Ted Hood Regatta. Another aspect of the program will include an introduction to this type of boat to the youth sailors at Pleon YC. Join this Speaker Series night to learn more from Rich and other EYC members involved in COSC on Wednesday the 3rd at 7pm EST.
Find the Zoom Link and other details on the Club Calendar.
