Women's Team Racing
Thursday, June 27, 2019

This is a fun and low-key summer evening of team racing club-owned Sonars right outside the harbor. You just sign up as an individual, and we will organize boats to make things as fun and as even as possible. The mixing and matching of sailors of different abilities means there will be lots of opportunity to learn. We hope to have a good showing of female sailors of all ages (in the past, the range has been 15-70 years old!), from not only Eastern but also Boston, Corinthian and Pleon. The event is open to club members and their invited guests.

New for this year: We will have an optional, short pre-brief in the EYC Sailing Center at 5:15 PM, before the event gets underway. Our coach, Alex Cook, will offer a few team racing pointers to think about during the evening’s racing. This is an opportunity to learn some new concepts. Nothing too fancy, just some tips that may help you improve your game if that is something you want to do. It’s perfectly fine to come for the sailing and not attend this pre-brief!

5:30 PM is when all EYC participants should be at the Sailing Center. From there, we will head out to the Sonars and sail to the mouth of the harbor, where the racing will take place. Racing will start around 6 PM. These races are quick (about 15 minutes long) and fun, no spinnakers, no worries . We come back in around 8:00ish (sunset is at 8:24 PM), at which point everyone from all the clubs’ teams are invited to the Club (I believe we will be doing this on the 3rd floor, in the Mariners’ Room, on June 27) for simple debrief, beverages, hearty food, and lots of good laughs. There’s no charge (except for the chit bar).

These women’s team racing evenings have proven to be great fun, less expensive than therapy, and much healthier than any wellness program we know of. Come try it for yourself!

To sign up, simply email Martha Altreuter at [email protected].
