Last week's Sailing News failed to mention Bryce Andreasen's impressive finish at the Smythe Trophy, the US Junior Singlehanded Championships. The event was sailed on windy San Francisco Bay in Byte C2's, a boat unfamiliar to Bryce. In addition, he was one of the youngest competitors to have qualified for the event. His scores improved throughout the regatta, culminating in third and fourth place finishes to close out the regatta and move him to tenth overall.

After narrowly qualifying for the "Gold Round" at the Hinman Masters Team Race this weekend, Team EYC sailed to a 3-2 win-loss record in the final round to move up to fifth overall. Team EYC was led by co-captains Dave Curtis and Debbie Noble and included Sam Altreuter, Jud Smith, Dru Slattery, Scott Alexander, Rick Myers, Cindy Smith, Martha Altreuter, Molly Bushman, Jeremy Bloxham, John Boyle, Bill Kaull, Tom Bushman, and Katie Bloxham. At Nantucket Race Week, Bruce Dyson sailed his 8-meter Pleione to another Spirit of Tradition Class victory at the Opera House Cup, Presented by Panerai this weekend. The event featured 31 "classics". In addition to first in class, Bruce and his crew was second overall on corrected time. "On the second leg we had Nefertiti and Bolero just in front of us and I figured they'd just pull away. But sure enough, they didn't - we rolled them!"

Also part of Nantucket Race Week, the IOD Celebrity Invitational features amateur skippers paired up with world class "celebrity tacticians". EYC's Robbie Doyle served as tactician for Heather Gregg and won the event by one point over Gary Jobson whose crew included Jud Smith.

EYC youth sailors took several top spots at the Mass Bay Junior Olympics in Annisquam last week. Thomas Walden and Will Hundahl won the 420 class with Peter Lynn/Lydia Grasberger in second and Hannah Lynn/Aidan Kennedy in third. Rachel Foster won the 54-boat Opti Championship class and William Bloxham took second in Laser Radials.
