Intensive Swim Lessons

Intensive swim lessons are a great way to build your child's confidence in the water as the summer gets under way. Most children hang up their swim suits once the pool closes for the season and they do not have any instruction until the EYC opens again in June. Get a jump start on their swimming with a 3:1 ratio between teachers and students. The consistency of 5 days in a row with the same teacher is key to your child's success. If your child needs to build confidence without their bubble or your child needs more independent stroke skill, we do it all. Your child will be matched with other students based on age and ability.

Cost is $100 per child for 5 days of lessons. These classes fill up fast and they are on a first come first serve basis.

Masters Swimming

John Strom comes back to the EYC pool early mornings for Masters Swim Practice! John swam competitively in Western Massachusetts for 14 years, the last four years of which he captained his high school swim team, the Holyoke Catholic Gaels. After an 8-year hiatus from competitive swimming, John returned to the sport in 2007, this time as Assistant Coach for the YNS Masters swim team. He has since taken on the Head Coach's position for Salem High School and is also serving as the Salem Site-Coordinator for the New England YMCA Champions, the YNS Sharks.

John's workouts are great for the experienced swimmer, the triathlete, or the individual simply looking for a great workout. Practices begin June 21st through July 29th, meeting Monday and Thursday mornings from 6-7am. A minimum of 6 swimmers is required for the session to be held. The price is $96 per person, or, if the minimum is fulfilled, others may pay a $10 drop-in fee per practice.

Open-Water Swim Clinic

The EYC's Master Swim Coach, John Strom, will hold an Open-Water Swim Clinic for triathletes, open-water competitors, or anyone interested in learning and/or improving their open-water swimming skills. John will use drills and varying swim techniques that will assist the open-water swimmer:
- learn to use the waves to help you ride up and slide down
- time your stroke so you can breath without getting splashed in the face
- learn to breath bi-laterally to also avoid splashing, while aiding you in swimming straighter
- prepare and overcome the adrenaline rush that comes with the start of a race, or the sometimes tough water conditions

The clinic will take place on Saturday, June 19th from 7am-8:30am. The cost is $15 per person. A minimum of 6 swimmers is required to hold the clinic.
