2012 Sonar Atlantic Coast Championships

June 23 – 24, 2012

Rules

The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the rules of the
Sonar Class (SCA), this Notice of Race (NOR) (except as any of these are changed by
the sailing instructions) and by the Sailing Instructions. The Organizing Authority is the
Sonar Class Association. The regatta will be hosted by Eastern Yacht Club (EYC).

Eligibility

The regatta is open to boats of the Sonar Class eligible to race with valid measurement
certificates. The Person-in-Charge must be an Active member of the SCA. If the
Person-in-Charge is not the Helmsman, then the Helmsman must also be an Active
member of the SCA.

Entry
Register online at www.sonar.org. Entries shall be submitted on or before June 23,
2012.

Fees
Entry received by June 1, 2012: $225
Entry received after June 1, 2012: $300
The entry fee includes:
Hoist access at Eastern Yacht Club.
Mooring or dockage for the duration of the regatta.
For the Skipper and Crew (total of 4):
Regatta Dinner and Beer on Saturday
Chowder and snacks at the Awards Ceremony on Sunday.
Additional tickets for the regatta dinner may be purchased separately for $40 each.

Housing

The organizing committee will make every effort to arrange housing for teams
registered by the June 1 deadline.

Measurement

Jury will spot check boats for safety gear and measurements. If your boat does not have
a valid measurement certificate, you will need to make arrangements with Lee Morrison,
VP Measurement.

Racing Area

Courses will be defined in the Sailing Instructions. Races will be held off Marblehead.
Windward/Leeward courses will be sailed with multiple laps

Series

The Series will be raced over two days. One race will constitute a series.

Scoring

The Low-Point scoring system, Appendix A of the RRS, as changed by the SCA Class
Rules, will apply. Each boat may exclude her worst race score from her series score only
if six or more races are completed.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to the skipper and crew of the first three boats in the series. If
more than 25 boats enter and start, prizes will be awarded to the skipper and crew of the
fourth place boat. If more than 35 boats enter and start, prizes will also be awarded to
the fifth place skipper and crew.

Support Boats

The Sailing Instructions will impose restrictions on when and where support boats will be
permitted in the racing area.

Mooring and Berthing

Boats shall be kept at locations assigned during launching.

Launch and Haul-Out Restrictions

Boats shall not be hauled out during the regatta without the written permission of the
Jury.

Radio Communication

All boats are required to carry VHF radios for safety purposes. Radio notification by the
Race Committee of notices to competitors or of premature starters may be used.
Except in emergencies, radio communication to or from competitors that is not available
to all boats shall not be permitted between each day’s harbor start and the finish of the
final competitor in the final race of that day. This restriction applies to all electronic
communication devices to include mobile phones.

Media Rights

By submitting an Entry Form, entrants and their crew give absolute right and permission
for video footage, on line graphic displays or photographs of themselves and/or of their
boat to be distributed in any media for press, editorial or advertising purposes.

Disclaimer of Liability

Entrants and their crew participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk
(RRS 4, Decision to Race). The organizing authority will not accept any liability for
material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to,
during or after the regatta.  Entrants and Crew will be required to sign a waiver of liability during registration.

Insurance

The safety of a boat and her entire management shall be the sole inescapable
responsibility of the owner or PIC.
