Harbor Challenge
The Harbor Challenge Team Race Series began as a series of 3-on-3 Team Racing matches between Boston YC, Corinthian YC, and Eastern YC. On Thursday evenings throughout the summer, two of the three teams would meet at the harbor entrance for a best of three team racing match up. In 2009, the series was modified such that all three teams now race every Thursday, facing off in a summer-long series of round robins. The number of races sailed by each team over the course of the summer has grown to close to 20; colored mainsails were added in 2010; and Harbor Challenge is now the perfect event for those new to team racing to try this exciting racing format, as well as a chance for experienced team racers to get some practice in.
The format remains 3-on-3, non-spinnaker team racing in Sonars. Anywhere from three to six races are sailed per night and a "Finals" is sailed in mid-August to determine the overall winner. Immediately following racing each evening, sailors rendezvous at the EYC's Barker Club Room for light refreshments and a casual debrief led by EYC Sailing Director Greg Wilkinson. The debriefs include video review of the evening's racing, review of the details of team racing plays, rules situations, and team racing boathandling/maneuvering tips from the sailors.
In 2013, Pleon Yacht Club will be fielding an unofficial team.
