RULES
The Series will be governed by the rules as defined by the Racing Rules of Sailing, the Notice of Race, except as any of these are altered by these Sailing Instructions; and by these Sailing Instructions.
CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Changes to the Sailing Instructions will be announced orally by the Race Committee and posted on the EYC Notice Board before the first race in which they take effect..
SIGNALS MADE ASHORE
Signals made ashore will be announced orally by the Race Committee at the Eastern Yacht Club.
SCHEDULE OF RACES
Racing will occur each Tuesday from June 8 through August 24. Report time is 1700, with a first race at 1745. Multiple races are scheduled each day, no race will start after sunset.
RACING AREA
All races will be sailed near the mouth of Marblehead Harbor.
SAFETY AND REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
All sailors must wear USCG-approved life jacket at all times.
COURSES
Courses will be windward/leewards or triangles or a combination of both. The course and number of laps will be announced orally by the RC prior to each race.
MARKS
Marks will be orange balls.
THE START
Races will be started using the Sound Signal Starting System..
CHANGE OF THE NEXT LEG OF THE COURSE
The RC may, with no signal, move any mark in order to maintain the original course configuration, provided the lead boat has not yet rounded the previous mark (changes RRS 35).
ALTERNATIVE PENALTIES & PROTESTS
A one-turn penalty (360) rule shall be in effect (changes RRS 44.2). Protests will be heard in an open forum by competitors.
SCORING
Low-Point Average Scoring will be used, and Appendix A is changed as follows:
12.1 Race scores will be points equal to a boat's finishing position in the race (1 point for first, 2 for second, etc).
12.2 DNF, RAF, OCS, and DSQ will be scored one more point than the number of boats finishing the race.
12.3 Boats that do not start (DNS) or do not come to the starting area (DNC) will not be scored.
12.4 Series scores will be the sum of a boat's Race Scores divided by the number of races the boat receives a score.
12.5 To qualify for final scoring and any prizes or trophies, a boat must sail and receive a score in 50% of the total races sailed, rounded up (if 11 races are sailed, a boat must sail 6 in order to "qualify").
PRIZES
Sailors are encouraged to find appropriate prizes - including an appropriately old and ornate perpetual 'trophy' - in their basements and garages to donate to the EYC Laser Fleet.
