Long time EYC Member and Race Committee icon Bob Duff was named the winner of the Priscilla Kehm Trophy for Outstanding Performance at the IOD World Championship Dinner on June 17th at the Eastern Yacht Club, capping his decades long career racing, promoting and loving the International Class
A long time IOD sailor, and passionate advocate for the class and his beloved IOD Tango #16, Duff was honored for his service to the Race Committee during the blustery opening days of the Championship. Duff, easily the oldest member of the World Championship Race Committee team, worked only two days of the regatta, but chose the most challenging days of the event. He manned his post on the Race Committee Signal boat on Sunday and Monday in windy, bumpy conditions that tested the mettle of the sailors and the race committee alike.
"At the 2011 IOD World Championship there could be no other choice for the Kehmn Trophy, after all, the man is older than the boats!" said regatta chair Greg Mancusi-Ungaro, alongside the current owner of Duff's Tango, Ian Morrison, as he presenting the award to Duff. "Bob has worked tirelessly from the sidelines to make this class a success and to make this regatta a success, he really gave his all. It was fantastic to see Bob Duff on the RC signal boat crew on Sunday and Monday - it really symbolizes everything the IOD class is about".
The assembled sailors, international judges and race committee members honored a much-surprised Bob Duff with a rousing standing ovation as he accepted the prize, .
