Clay Johnson Wins Silver Medal at Kiel Week
Posted On: June 24, 2010

Clay Johnson sat in 5th overall in the Laser class going into the Medal Race at Kiel Week - the 6th of 7 regattas in the ISAF World Cup and a major international event for all Olympic Classes.  The medal race format for the Olympic classes stipulates that at the end of scheduled racing, a final race is held for the boats in the top ten.  The Medal Race counts double and is not discardable.  The race is also a shorter race, which Johnson claims plays to his strength, particularly after having enjoyed success in collegiate sailing at Harvard University.  Johnson was able to live up to his prediction, winning the Medal Race and moving up to second overall.

The silver medal at Kiel Week moves Clay to 6th overall in the ISAF World Cup standings.  The World Cup consists of seven international regattas in Australia, Europe, and the US.  The final event of the 2010 World Cup will be sailed in Weymouth, England, the site of the 2012 Olympic Games.

Clay is a member of the US Sailing Team Alphagraphics and has been a member of EYC for just over a year.  To learn more about Clay and his Olympic campaign, please visit his web page - www.claysails.com
