Eastern YC Wins Commodore's Cup; EYC Burgee Flies Over Corinthian YC
Posted On: August 24, 2009

Commodore Robbie Doyle led the Eastern Yacht Club Team to victory at the 2009 Commodore's Cup this Sunday.  Vice Commodore Phil Smith joined the team as well, crewing aboard Rick Myers' boat, skippered by Dru Slattery.  Racing began in a dying north/northwest breeze as EYC opened the series with a win over Corinthian.  The second race turned into a drifter - with EYC somehow managing to ghost along a bit faster than the team from Boston Yacht Club.  Two offsetting DSQs in that race - one for each team - were the only protests hearings of the day and did not effect the overall results.  The regatta format was a double round robin, with each of the three clubs racing the others twice, followed by a best of 3 Finals between the top two teams.  Eastern's team was perfect through the round robins, winning all four of their races.  EYC went on to sweep Boston YC in the finals, 2-0, to capture the 2009 Commodore's Cup.

The highlight of the day was the cookout lunch on the porch of Corinthian Yacht Club following the racing.  All the sailors from each of the three teams gathered for burgers and beer and to re-hash the day's racing.   At the conclusion of the cookout, the Eastern Yacht Club burgee was hoisted to the top of the Corinthian YC flag pole, in honor of EYC's victory.

Congratulations to the 2009 EYC Commodore's Cup Team:
