Junior Sailing News
It seems like just yesterday that droves of young sailors were shyly sauntering up to the paddle hut for their first day of summer sailing.  Now, these old salts confidently walk up, check in and begin to talk sailing, trade silly bands and discuss last night's Red Sox game.  Session one ended with a bang at the Float Party which drew in over one hundred participants!  Click here to see pictures.  Here is a recap of what each class has covered this session and some highlights from the program.

Sloop Sonars: Page had a terrific session with sloop sonars.  They all had a tremendous time sailing sonars, learning the parts of the boat and working on sail trim and steering.  They managed to survive some sweltering days out on the water by taking a swim at the mouth of the harbor and are quickly have become comfortable on the water.

Intro to FS: Intro to FS has been a fun class to watch as the season has progressed.  They began as timid youngsters but have developed into young sailors.  Intro to FS has split time between optis and sonars in order to make them comfortable both in a small maneuverable class and a larger racing class.  Intro to FS has covered everything from steering and sail trim to points of sail and has excelled at every step along the way.

Opti I: Ryan has had an exciting session with Opti I.  This group of eager sailors has battled through extreme heat, light and heavy breeze situations, and the occasional shower to sail this session.  They have focused on points of sail as well as beginning to conquer upwind sailing.  These sailors have a bright future and we all look forward to see them continue to grow in session two!

Opti II: Katie and Liza have enjoyed teaching this large group of talented sailors.  Opti II has tackled the points of sail and upwind sailing which has allowed them to cruise through the harbor as well as sail around triangle courses.  These experiences have helped to solidify what Katie and Liza have been teaching them all session and have enabled some of their sailors to even try sailing alone.

Opti III: Opti III is coming off an exciting three days at Marblehead Junior Race Week.  We had a large part of our Opti III class participate in this great event including Will Poss, Wade Zurn, Davis Walker, Will Hancock, Philip Jeffries, Russell Hutchinson, Emmett Janney, Brendan D'Orio and Alex D'Orio.  They all had a great time and were able to use the home field advantage to stand out in the opti green fleet.  We all look forward to see their racing tactics progress as they continue into the second session.
