A told B, and B told C, "Ill meet you at the top of the deck at Eastern Junior Sailing for session 2 because I had SO MUCH FUN during session 1 that I want to come back and hang with Liam, Katie, Liza, Tori, Hank, Ryan, and Tucker for a whole extra 4 weeks!" Chicka Chicka Boom Boom - Junior Sailing still has room!
As Marblehead Junior Race Week wraps up, as to does the first session of Eastern Junior Sailing. Oh and what a great session it was. We don't like to think of it as the summer being half over; conversely, the instructors like to think that the junior sailors are half way done in the process of bettering themselves at sailing this summer. And the half way point in the amount of freeze pops eaten by the staff and young sailors of the program, which comes in at 600. Only 600 more to go!
Moving from most affected to least affected by the sugar in each freeze pop, we'll start with a recap of week 4 from the Sloop-a-loops! This week, the Sloops were treated to a treat of tremendous proportion; not only did they get to view some of Marblehead Junior Race Week's finest green fleet races on Tuesday while steering around the bay, but they also got to go for ice cream at Coffey's Ice Cream on Thursday! Smiles all around on both days to say the least!
If your child can eat two freeze pops and not pop him/herself, they're probably in the Intro to Junior Sailing class! This week, the Intro class also got a glimpse of what Race Week looks like, as they got out to see some of the 420 and Laser Championship racing in the Sonars on Tuesday. The triangle course was discusses, as well as the use of spinnakers! On Thursday, the luxury of ice cream was enjoyed by all, followed by a short exercise session at Crocker Park.
If you can eat three freeze pops during the course of a day and still fall asleep at night, you might be in Opti I! This week was met with large amounts of treats and fun; most sailing related. After sailing in some big breeze at the beginning of the week, the Opti I class got to sail to ice cream as a special treat on Wednesday. Along with inhaling their frozen cream, they got to see some of the races on the green fleet line for a short period of time. Life is good when you're young.
If screaming for ten freeze pops, eating them all, going crazy for ten minutes, then going comatose for 3 hours is your thing, then Opti II is the place for you! Along with some race week watching and ice cream eating, Opti II got to experience all kinds of conditions this week from heavy air and cooler breeze to light and variable winds and hot. As session 1 wraps up, I'm going to say that this class has been the best class of Opti II'ers in a long time! Way to go guys!
Finally, if between Monday and Wednesday of this week your class consumed around 150 freeze pops as purely a means of keeping your body functioning all day when you were on the water, then you're enrolled in Opti III. If you think freeze pops aren't filling, you've never eaten a baker's dozen for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for three days. For the accomplishments of Opti III, check out the Race Week poem, pictures, and more from the craziest week of the summer. Good work guys!
