EYC Sailors Win 2010 Race Week/NOOD Regatta
Posted On: July 26, 2010

Racing at the 2010 Marblehead Race Week/NOOD Regatta began last Thursday in gorgeous conditions under sunny skies with offshore winds gusting above 20 knots.  Only the IOD, Etchells, and Rhodes 19 classes raced on Thursday.  EYC's Bruce Dyson and Norm Cressy sailed a consistent series, winning three races and finishing top three in four others to win the IOD Class.  Greg Mancusi-Ungaro took third overall in the IODs.

In the J/105 Class, EYC's Doug & Peter Morgan won the first race of the event and went on to take the overall win, finishing top three in all but one of the races.  Skipper Kevin Colcord finished third overall in the 21-boat J/105 fleet.

The Rhodes 19 Class used Race Week as a tune-up for the upcoming National Championships at Corinthian YC in August.  EYC's Charlie Pendleton won the regatta, defeating local rival Kim Pandapas by six points.

Jud Smith won all but one race on his way to the Star Class victory.  Runner-up to Jud was fellow-EYC member Tomas Hornos in second place.

Racing in the Sonar Class was amazingly close.  Several yacht clubs - including Annapolis YC, San Francisco YC, and St. Francis YC - used the event as a tune-up for their New York Yacht Club Invitational Qualifier teams.  Each club flew in their best sailors, chartered Sonars, and had private coaches working with their sailors.  EYC skippers Larry Ehrhardt and Sam Altreuter ended the regatta in a 3-way tie for first place with St. Francis YC's Russ Silvestri.  After the tie breaking rules were applied, Silvestri won the regatta, with Larry's team second and the Altreuter's in third.

EYC's Daan Goedkoop took second overall in the Viper Class.  Daan sailed a great series, winning two races and finishing top three in five of the seven race series and were edged out by just one point for the overall win.
