Marblehead to Halifax Race
The Race Committee for the Marblehead Halifax Race which goes off the line here on July 5th, needs accomplished captains and their crews and boats to be organized to patrol the racing corridors of the start. You may know that the start is buoyed about three miles NE off Marblehead Bell, turns at the bell for Tinkers, and then turns again to proceed direct Halifax to the NE. The start is complex in order to provide better racing boat spectator value to Marblehead.
About 25 patrol craft are needed to keep racing lanes free of spectators. Power boats are ideal for the job. Here below are our recommendations for you to consider and the contact information if you want to join. Obviously, patrol craft will have the catbird seat in terms of watching the magnificent start of this great bi-annual event.
SPB (Spectator Patrol Boat) requirements:
Basic Requirements
2 VHF radios
Power boat 15’-30’
Willing to spend most of the day for this event
Team of 2 people min (for safety reasons)
USCG approved safety equipment
Willing to participate in a couple of planning sessions
Willing to participate in a dry run
Additional items to consider:
Indicate if anyone on your boat has CPR training
Indicate if anyone on your boat is an experienced sailor
A Hailer
Indicate if you are USCG AUX member
Willing to help set marks prior to race and pick them up at the end of the race.
Please contact Mike Neligon by email

or cell 617-797-0154 if you are willing to volunteer this year.
